Starting will April 1, 2023 all gold jewellery in India have to contain within itself a 6 digit combination of alphabet and numerical HUID ( Hallmark Unique Identification )

This HUID will have tracing elements which can help consumers get back to the original jeweller of the jewellery which they have purchased. Also, the consumer will get the help from it to check the purity of the jewellery.

Difference between old and new Hallmark rule

Two major differences are :

The hallmark will now be of 6 alphanumeric digit which was 4 digits earlier.

Another difference is that now under the new rule which uses a 6 digit HUID which will have tracing elements which can help consumers get back to the original jeweller of the jewellery which they have purchased. Also, the consumer will get the help from it to check the purity of the jewellery, which was not possible in the old system.
